Maintenance of SUD’s and Balancing Ponds
Aquatic Solutions UK are the Country’s leading specialist in water course refurbishment and maintenance. With all new housing developments and road infrastructures now incorporating some form of flood mitigation, often in the form of SUDs, we feel we have the perfect tool for this unique area of landscaping. Our Truxor amphibious machines are small and lightweight compared to traditional plant usually associated with silt removal or aquatic weed control. At just 1400kg and able to turn on its own axis the Truxor is highly manoeuvrable and the most ecologically friendly way of tackling works to all variations of water course.
As the Truxor works from the water we are able to drive straight from the towing trailer and into the water creating very little interference with the surrounding habitat. The Truxor has a different attachment for each aspect of aquatic maintenance and our services include bulrush removal, aquatic weed cutting, silt pumping and dredging, aquatic weed control, reedbed management and associated landscaping services.
Most SUDs/Attenuation Ponds have been planted with phragmites and or bulrush due to their natural ability to treat pollutants and reduce the flow of water, however, if not regularly maintained the vegetation can soon take over a pond and the efficiency is then much reduced and flooding can re-occur due to blocked outlets and inlets.
Phragmites and Typha (Bulrush) Control: Bulrush (Typha) Maintenance:
Aquatic Solution’s preferred method of control for Phragmites is to use the excavator attachment on the Truxor amphibious machine to grub out the rhizome root system. This severely weakens the plant making any volunteer regrowth easier to control. Other methods of control leave the rhizome system in place, but the advantage of removal is that it helps limit further regrowth.
The most efficient way to remove the reeds/bulrush is with our Truxor machine with clamshell attachment. Once removed the reeds float on the water and our Truxor is fitted with a rake attachment to collect the waste.
Silt Removal/Dredging:
The build up of silt will lead to a reduction in water depth of the watercourse and the potential of increased risk of flooding.
Aquatic Solutions offers a number of silt removal options with the most popular being removal via pump or removal via Clamshell attachment. The silt can then be either pumped into our specially made silt dewatering bags. Alternatively, with the use of Nicospan, a new border/bank created which can then be replanted as required or we are able to transfer the silt to the bankside where it can be graded around the margins. There are sites where removal off site is the only options and we can load the silt into vehicles for removal if necessary.
With the largest fleet of Truxor amphibious machines in the country and the most skilled and experienced operators in the industry Aquatic Solutions UK are confident of offering the most professional, timely, cost effective and ecologically friendly solution to the maintenance of SUDs across the country.
